We have recently\nshown that the genome of an ancestral mammal living about 70\nMillion years ago can be computationally reconstructed to a\nsurprising degree of accuracy from the genomes of extant species.\nIn the first part of this talk\, I will in troduce some of the\ncomputational challenges related to the accurate reco nstruction of\nan ancestral genome. I will then describe how this new geno me\,\nstrategically positioned at the center of the mammalian radiation\, \nallows a detailed study of the evolution of transcriptional\nregulatory regions. Finally\, I will describe how whole-genome\nanalyses based in par t on comparative genomics reveal new and\nunexpected traits of mammalian r egulatory regions\, both those\nlocated in non-coding regions and those hi ding within\nprotein-coding DNA.\n \n DTSTART:20090212T230000Z DTEND:20090212T230000Z LOCATION:CA\, 3649 Promenade Sir-William-Osler\, 3649 Promenade Sir-William -Osler\, Bellini Building\, Life Scinces Complex\, Montreal SUMMARY:MonBUG Seminar URL:/channels/event/monbug-seminar-104333 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
