Al Jazeera\nEnglish and Canada’s ne ws spectrum\n\nThe panelists are:\n\nJosh Rushing-- author and internation al\ncorrespondent for AJE\, is a former United States Marine Captain who\n was a press officer for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) during the\n2003 in vasion of Iraq. He was thrust into the international\nspotlight following an appearance in the documentary Control Room\nthat featured his conversat ion with a correspondent from Al Jazeera\n(Arabic). He left the Marines a year later and was one of the first\njournalists hired to work for the new AJE.\n\n\n\nCatherine Cano-- is the Deputy News Director at\nAJE. A nativ e of Canada\, Ms. Cano is the former Head of Réseau de\nl’Information (RDI ) and former Senior News Director for Société\nRadio-Canada (SRC). She has been in journalism for the last 20\nyears where she has worked as a media consultant\, editor\, reporter\,\nproducer and freelance writer.\n\n\n\nM arc Raboy-- Beaverbrook Chair in Ethics\, Media\nand Communications and Ch air of Media@ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï. His current research\nexamines media and communicatio n governance issues in light of\nincreasing globalization and the role of new international policy\nvenues such as the World Summit on the Informati on Society and the\nUN-sponsored Internet Governance Forum.\n\n\n\nLorna R oth-- is an Associate Professor of\nCommunication Studies at Concordia Uni versity. Prof. Roth’s\nresearch focuses on the media and minorities\, neo- colonial theory\nand development\, race\, representation\, technologies\, international\ncommunication and indigenous television and media history. \n\n\n\nThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission\n( CRTC) is considering an application to distribute Al Jazeera\nEnglish (AJE )\, the Qatar-based\, 24-hour international news network\,\nin Canada.
