Prior to that he spent 4\nyears as an Assistant Professor at the University of Paris VI\,\nFrance. He obtaine d his PhD in Biology from Imperial College\,\nLondon in the UK.\nHis resea rch is focused on two major themes: 1) Biodiversity and\necosystem functio ning in heterogeneous environments\, 2) The causes\nand consequences of bi odiversity loss and maladaptation. Through a\nblend of experiment and theo ry his research has examined how\nhabitat fragmentation and environmental variability interact to\ncause species extinction\, and how dispersal may mitigate these\neffects. He has also worked on the socioeconomic drivers o f\nbiodiversity loss and recently published work on the relationship\nbetw een economic inequality and biodiversity. He has also combined\nexperiment al and theoretical approaches in ecology and evolution to\nunderstand the problem of antibiotic resistance\, and evolutionary\nrescue in changing en vironments.\n DTSTART:20100310T173000Z DTEND:20100310T183000Z LOCATION:University 3534\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2A7\, 3534 rue Universi ty SUMMARY:MSE Speakers Series - Prof. Andy Gonzalez URL:/channels/event/mse-speakers-series-prof-andy-gonz alez-115205 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
