It is versatile\,\nflexible an d perfectly adapted to a natural environment. Walking in\nits various real izations enables the biological systems to have\naccess to all natural str uctures of the earth. Walking realizes\nmotion\, and motion with motion pl anning is the basis for\nintelligence\, as modern biologists say. If intel ligence is defined\nas the ability to deal with unknown and new situations biological\nmotion\, both mental and physical\, can be considered as a\nm anifestation of intelligence. Walking has been detected by\nengineers some 20-30 years ago\, although before that time numerous\ntrials had been mad e to realize some mechanisms with walking\ncapabilities. Nowadays the comp uter age and a large variety of\nsophisticated technologies give walking m achine realizations a high\nprobability of success\, which can best be see n in Japan.  My\ngroup at the Technical University of Munich started in 19 89 to\ndesign and to realize walking machines\, partly in cooperation with \nneurobiologists specialized in biological walking problems. The\npresent ation will touch some problems connected with machine\nwalking\, especiall y in the fields of design\, dynamics\, control and\nstabilization. It will also discuss some of the open questions\nconnected with walking\, especia lly stabilization problems. Finally\,\nthe chances of walking machines wil l be discussed.\n DTSTART:20100910T213000Z DTEND:20100910T213000Z LOCATION:Macdonald Harrington Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C2\, 815 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:On Biological and Artificial Walking URL:/channels/event/biological-and-artificial-walking- 167353 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
