The Sha hnameh has become without a doubt one of the\nforemost literary works to e ncapsulate the breadth and depth of\nIran's historical trajectory. First c omposed by Ferdowsi to\npreserve Iran's cultural\, linguistic and historic al heritage\, the\nShahnameh\, meaning 'the book of kings\,' details the h istory of Iran\nprior to the Arab invasion in the 7th century.\nThis liter ary work\, a national epic composed in 52\, 000 couplets\ntells the story of heroes\, villains\, monsters and offers sage\nadvice on moral lessons i n governance. Legendary are the stories of\nits famous kings and heroes\, especially of Rustam who so fearlessly\ndefended the Persian kingdom in ma ny spectacular battles against\nthe hostile Turanians from the North. The epic also\nrelates the important features of ideal kingship. It narrates t he\nbattle between Good and Evil\, and is a constant reminder that life\ni s just a transitory memento.\nThe ISL exhibition offers the visitor an opp ortunity to\nexperience some of the heroes and villains of this remarkable epic\npoem. With 16 miniature paintings on display\, the exhibition offer s\nthe viewer a diverse overview of this celebrated text as well as\nthe m agnificence of Persian painting.\nNo charge.
