Malignant glial tumours\nare complex cellular microenvironments containi ng one large\nlocalized aggregation of tumour cells and smaller subpopulat ions of\ninvading tumour cells. Failure to control these subpopulations of \ninvading tumour cells may be the key reason for local and distant\nrecur rence after radical resection and may contribute substantially\nto the fai lure of other modalities of treatment such as\nradiotherapy and chemothera py.  Dr. Del Maestro was a key\nfigure in establishing The Neuro’s Neurosu rgical Simulation Centre\ncollaborating with the National Research Council to develop virtual\nreality simulations for brain tumour surgery.\n\nKnow n for his compassion and dedication\, excellence in the care and\ntreatmen t of patients has always been a priority for Dr. Del\nMaestro.  He and his wife\, Pam\, have worked tirelessly to\nraise awareness for brain tumours in Canada and\ninternationally.  They are founding members of the North\n American Brain Tumor Coalition and\, along with Steve Northey\,\nfounded T he Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada.
