Today, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced 89 new Fellows and 51 new Members of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Among the 2021 RSC cohort are ten Թ researchers, including seven RSC Fellows and three Members, who will be inducted at the RSC Celebration of Excellence and Engagement, hosted by Թ on Friday, November 19, 2021. The new Թ cohort will join 228 Թ researchers who are currently RSC Fellows and Members of the College.

On August 6, the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development announced agreements that will see almost $200 million over two years flow to shelters, sexual assault centres and organizations supporting women and children experiencing violence. This will ensure these critical front-line organizations can continue to provide life-saving services and supports to those who need it most.

Թ’s researchers will soon acquire the highly specialized tools they need to innovate in their fields thanks to funding from the Government of Canada through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF). The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, made the announcement today of $77 million across 50 institutions in Canadathrough the program. In total, twenty-one Թ research projects have received a combined $3.9 million in federal grants through three rounds of JELF.

Applications for the Accelerate Grants are now open for those HBHL-funded researchers whose projects have successfully completed the Ignite Phase of the Neuro Commercialization Grants. The NeuroSphere team will be in touch with researchers whose projects have been determined by the HBHL Innovation Committee to be ready to move on to the Accelerate phase.

Canada and Germany produce a combined 6.3 million tons of ammonia annually. Used primarily in the fertilizer, textile, and pharmaceutical industries, conventional ammonia production is energy-intensive and accounts for up to two per cent of primary energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Researchers at Թ and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), recently received a funding boost to undertake a collaborative project with the goal of producing renewable, “green” ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen by means of an innovative plasma-catalytic process.

Today Genome Quebec announced the results of its Genomic Integration Program, Human Health Stream competition. Five Թ teams from a diverse array of fields were awarded funds, totaling nearly $1 million. One of the defining features of this program is the requirement that institutional applicants must also have an external non-academic partner, thus supporting program goals of stimulating the Quebec economy and encouraging the use of genomic technologies in the Quebec healthcare system.
