Canada seeks investment edge in shifting global economy

Published: 2 June 2026

Canada is positioning itself as a more compelling destination for global capital, and Sebastien Betermier, Associate Professor of Finance at Թ Desautels, says the shift reflects both necessity and opportunity. As geopolitical tensions and U.S. trade pressures mount, Betermier argues Canada must attract more private investment, particularly in infrastructure and energy transition assets.

“Canada is becoming increasingly investable,” he notes, pointing to openings in sectors traditionally dominated by public ownership. While policy uncertainty remains a concern for investors, Betermier stresses that long-term stability will outweigh short-term political noise. With the right regulatory balance, he adds, Canada can align profitability with environmental responsibility.
