D2R invests over $1.2 million for Postdoctoral Scholars

Published: 21 January 2026

Montreal, January 21, 2026 – The D2R | DNA to RNA Initiative at Թ proudly announces the recipients of the inaugural Postdoctoral Scholar Awards. Alongside the Master’s and Doctoral Scholar awards, this funding program recognizes outstanding trainees working on diverse D2R-aligned research projects and brings outstanding postdoctoral researchers from across Canada and abroad to the D2R Initiative.

In alignment with the Tri-Agency Postdoctoral Research Award, D2R Postdoctoral Scholars receive $70,000 per year plus eligible benefits for two years. This competition has funded eight Scholars from Թ and its Partner Institutions, including the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM), McMaster University, and the University of Ottawa. The funded research spans D2R’s Foundational Axes, from work investigating fundamental RNA biology for the identification of new drug targets in cancer, to studies developing novel RNA therapeutics and improved delivery strategies for these therapies in the clinic.

"This inaugural group of Postdoctoral Scholars brings research excellence from across the world into what is already a strong, inclusive community of D2R trainees,” said Anthony Van Kessel, D2R's Training Program Officer. “By supporting and connecting these Postdoctoral Scholars with peers, mentors, and industry leaders, we are creating a network that sparks discovery and shared success."

In addition to receiving financial support through the Scholar Awards, these trainees will participate in the D2R Training Program. The D2R Training Program provides training to help participants improve as researchers, become active members of the collaborative D2R community, and build future careers in RNA therapeutics and genomic medicine. This program consists of a series of workshops and training opportunities featuring topics central to D2R’s mission, such as research collaboration, data science, integration of EDI principles, and science in industry. The D2R Training Program events remain open to all trainees within the D2R community, and interested students are encouraged to sign up for event and funding opportunity updates via the D2R Training mailing list.

D2R continues to prioritize support for trainees by promoting excellence in research, creating D2R-specific and inclusive training opportunities, and empowering the next generation with the skills and networks needed to transform RNA therapeutics and genomic medicine.
