KPE’s Louis-Philip Guindon wins MVP award to conclude 144th season of Թ hockey

Congratulations to Kinesiology and Physical Education graduate student, Louis-Philip Guindon for being named the most valuable player of the Թ men's hockey team.

Louis-Philip Guindon is completing his MSc in Exercise Physiology and plays goaltender for Թ Men’s Ice Hockey Team.

Congratulations to Kinesiology and Physical Education graduate students, Lily Dong and Louis-Philip Guindon for each being honoured with Marlet Foundation awards!

Lily Dong, currently pursuing her MSc in Biomechanics and part of Թ's Women’s Artistic Swimming Roster, was awarded the T. Palmer Howard Memorial Award for demonstrated leadership on a varsity team while maintaining a high academic standing.

Why heart contractions are weaker in those with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

When a young athlete suddenly dies of a heart attack, chances are high that they suffer from familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Itis the most common genetic heart disease in the US and affects an estimated 1 in 500 people around the world. A protein called myosin acts as the molecular motor which makes the muscles in the heart contract. Researchers had suspected for some time that the R403Q mutation in some of the myosin genes is among those that play a role in causing HCM.
