Today marks the beginning of Resident Doctors Appreciation Week, taking place from February 9 to 13. This week offers an important opportunity to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of our family medicine residents.

Through their clinical excellence, dedication to patients, commitment to learning, and support of one another, our family medicine residents make a meaningful difference every day, often in ways that go unseen. Taking a moment to acknowledge their efforts can have a powerful impact.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month is a time for reflection and accountability. It represents an opportunity to honour the contributions and resilience of Black physicians, educators, and community leaders who have shaped healthcare—often while navigating significant barriers. It is also a reminder that equity in medicine is not a historical goal we have achieved, but an ongoing responsibility we must actively uphold.

On April 29, the ��Թ� Department of Family Medicine hosted the annual Dr. Hirsh Rosenfeld Distinguished Public Lecture in Family Medicine, spotlighting a critical yet often overlooked facet of clinical care: the cultural interpretation of pain. Titled “Too much pain, doctor!”: Recognizing and Contextualizing Cultural Expressions of Pain, the event featured Isabelle Leblanc, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in ��Թ�’s Department of Family Medicine and physician at St. Mary’s Family Medicine Centre.

On March 26, 2025, ��Թ� Palliative Care held the third lecture of their National Grand Round Series at the Jewish General Hospital, a program supported by nine local hospital foundations and their partner, Pallium Canada. This initiative aims to disseminate the latest innovations, research and ideas in palliative care to communities across Canada and beyond, particularly those who may not typically have access to academic speakers.

The Department of Family Medicine opens a new clinic at the Lakeshore General Hospital

On September 18, 2024, the ��Թ� Department of Family Medicine, in collaboration with the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation, opened the Lakeshore University Family Medicine Group (U-FMG), a Family Medicine teaching clinic at the Lakeshore General Hospital. This clinic has now become the 12th home base to residents in the ��Թ� Family Medicine program which counts over 200 residents. The Department of Family Medicine has an additional 35 training sites in rural Quebec, stretching from Nunavik to Gatineau.
