Estimatingthe causal effect of intimate partnerviolence on women’s contraceptive use: an application of marginal structural models to cohort data from Rakai, Uganda

Background

  • Studies have found intimate partner violence (IPV) is associated with increased incidence of HIV infection and unintended pregnancy
  • Women who experience IPV may adopt a contraceptive method that they do not need to disclose
  • Longitudinal studies on the relation between IPV and contraceptive use are based on limited follow-up; some adjust for mediating variables which may attenuate the relation between IPV and contraceptive use

ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
