As a member of the Bear Clan from Kahnawake and former Secretary of the Mohawk Nation, Dr. Deer has been a leading advocate for Indigenous rights for over thirty years, actively participating in various UN forums and working groups.

This was a public talk on A Haudenosaunee Perspective on the Development of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples with Dr. Kenneth Atsenhaienton Deer.
This lecture described how the Haudenosaunee played a pivotal role in the development of the UN's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This long journey began in 1923, when Deskaheh, a Cayuga Chief, traveled to Geneva to participate in the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations and the Working Group on the Draft Declaration, culminating in the vote in the General Assembly in 2007.
