Consistent identification of DLD has the potential to facilitate understa nding and improve outcomes. Identification of DLD can be challenging\, how ever\, because there is no clear cut point between normal and disordered l anguage. Typical and atypical language development forms a continuum\, whi ch means that the low end of the distribution is part of the normal variat ion of development. Importantly\, then\, studies of individual differences across skill distribution has the potential to inform understanding of ch ildren with disorders. The presentation will summarize work examining cogn itive and linguistic mechanisms underlying language and learning abilities and disabilities in children and adults. Consistent with a developmental perspective\, overlap across learning profiles and common predictors of sc hool outcomes characterize large developmental groups. Both experimental a nd practice-based approaches to meeting the needs of children with or at-r isk of DLD will be presented.\n\nBio: Lisa Archibald worked as a clinical Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for over 15 years providing services to children and adults\, in schools\, hospitals\, and other facilities. Curre ntly an Associate Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Di sorders at the University of Western Ontario\, Lisa studies links between memory and language processes in individuals with communication disorders. In particular\, she is interested in working memory and language learning deficits in children. Recently\, Lisa has focused on SLP-educator school- based collaborations\, and has been part of an international team of resea rchers and stakeholders considering terminology and profile for children w ith and unexplained\, persistent language disorder now known as developmen tal language disorder (DLD).\n\nVirtual Event will be held via Zoom\n\nCli ck to join\n\nMeeting ID: 839 6718 9271\n Passcode: 926390\n\nTo learn more about this lecture\, click here.\n DTSTART:20210322T210000Z DTEND:20210322T210000Z SUMMARY:Donald G.
