Nature supports people in critical ways, often at a highly local level. A wild bee buzzes through a farm, pollinating vegetables as it goes. Nearby, wetlands remove chemicals from the farm’s runoff, protecting a community drinking water source. In communities all around the world, nature’s contributions are constantly flowing to people.

UNAIDS likely not to meet its HIV targets among gay men in Africa

Despite improvements in HIV testing among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Africa, they are missing out on HIV treatment.

This is the finding of research, published in The Lancet HIV, led by Imperial College London, which analysed data from 75 independent studies involving 44,993 MSM across 28 African countries, between 2004 and 2018.

Some plastic with your tea?

A cup of tea may be a cure for rainy days, but the soothing cup of the brewed beverage may also come with a dose of micro- and nano-sized plastics shed from plastic bags, according to researchers at Թ. While the possible health effects of ingesting these particles are currently unknown, the new research published in the American Chemical Society journal Environmental Science & Technology suggests further investigation is needed.

Թ to host Harvard in Covo Cup Classic on Sept. 7 to mark anniversary of historic 1874 rugby-football game

The Թ men’s rugby team will celebrate the 145th anniversary of the first rugby-football game ever played in the United States when they host Harvard in the annual Covo Cup confrontation on Saturday (Sept. 7). Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium (475 Pine Avenue West).

Government of Canada funds Collaborative Research to Clean Arctic Oil Spills

Today, the Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice, Attorney General of Canada and Member of Parliament for LaSalle-Émard-Verdun, announced on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, that Թ will receive more than $3.7 million for two research projects that will help minimize the environmental impact of oil spills.

Students at Թ receive Canada’s largest Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarship 

Cyril Mani and Marin Schultz have been named Թ’s recipients of the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship. 

Out of a pool of more than 300,000 potential candidates across Canada, 1,400 students were nominated, of whom 50 received this celebrated award.

Թ researchers receive $6.5M in funding from the CFI and the Government of Quebec

Twelve Թ researchers have received federal grants through the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF). The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, made the announcement today at the University of Alberta. Each Թ recipient will also receive matching funds from the Quebec government for their research endeavours.
