As President of the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS), Alex Bilodeau has spent the past academic year working with a dedicated team on various initiatives to improve the experience and meet the needs of undergraduate students at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN). He had never heard of the Scarlet Key Award – until his peers convinced him that he was an eminently worthy candidate and encouraged him to apply.

Another prestigious award for Lia Sanzone

It is no exaggeration to say that Lia Sanzone’s name is synonymous with nursing mentorship. Since 2014, she has introduced highly successful initiatives such as the Nursing Peer Mentorship Program and the ��Թ� Nursing Fellows Program, which foster professional guidance, promote interprofessional collaboration, ease workforce transition, and enhance nursing integration and retention.

Indigenous Nurses Day 2026: Inspiration, impact, community

This year’s celebration of Indigenous Nurses Day, held on April 9, was organized jointly by the Ingram School of Nursing’s Office for Social Accountability in Nursing (OSAN) and the Golden Age Club in Kahnawà:ke. The Club served as a gracious host to ��Թ� faculty and students as well as working and retired Indigenous nurses in attendance. As noted by Josée Lavallée (Red River Métis), RN, OSAN Director, “It was an honour to be invited to Kahnawà:ke for the event. It was important to go to community as the event is really is about celebrating Indigenous nurses.”

Creating superuser toolkit a super experience for master’s students

As the academic year came to a close, master’s students presented their Knowledge Translation (KT) and research projects at two separate Graduate Student Symposiums attended by their peers, nursing faculty, and clinical and research supervisors. “The calibre of the presentations was outstanding,” noted Lynne McVey, Director Ingram School of Nursing. Nursing students provide health screening to Special Olympics athletes

The all-day event began early on Saturday morning, March 28, at ��Թ�’s gym.

As Nursing Student Representative at Swab the World ��Թ� and Equity Commissioner for the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS), Melanie Xie found the perfect opportunity to bridge both roles by co-organizing a potluck and Stem Cell Donation Drive for donors under the age of 35. “As a person of color, I am acutely aware of the disparities that exist in our healthcare system; for patients from diverse backgrounds, finding a matching donor is often significantly harder,” Melanie explains.

From Brazil to Montreal

In March, the Ingram School of Nursing had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Nayara Barbosa from the School of Nursing at the University of São-Paulo, Brazil, and Margareth Zanchetta from the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University. Prof. Barbosa is a nurse researcher whose work promotes sexual and reproductive health of vulnerable women dealing with homelessness in Sāo Paulo, Brazil.

Living Books Project: An engaging way to learn about mental health

On March 24, 2026, second year BScN students in the course NUR1 333 attended a unique workshop designed to destigmatize mental health called Living Books. A project of the Omega Community Resources, a non-profit organization in Dorval that provides support and assistance to adults living with mental health challenges, Living Books humanizes mental health while helping clients heal by writing their stories and sharing them in the community.
