Biography: 

Dr. Nakhla’s research focuses on identifying the healthcare needs of youth living with type 1 diabetes and developing evidence-based approaches to care delivery, with a particular emphasis on improving transition care and informing best practices. She leads a solution-focused research program that integrates population-based cohort studies, randomized controlled trials, qualitative research and implementation science. Leveraging her clinical experience, Dr. Nakhla works to identify research questions that are meaningful to youth living with type 1 diabetes and designs clinical trials to address their priorities. By partnering with individuals with lived type 1 diabetes experience, Dr. Nakhla ensures that her work translates into actionable, scalable interventions that address real-world challenges. Dr. Nakhla’s research is supported by multiple operating grants from Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Santé.
