Professor Mathieu Brochu appointed Associate Vice-President, Strategic Technology Partnerships

New position will provide academic leadership for major interdisciplinary research and technology initiatives in strategic sectors.

Mathieu Brochu, Associate Professor in Mining and Materials Engineering and Associate Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Institute for Aerospace Engineering, is appointed Associate Vice-President, Strategic Technology Partnerships, for a five-year term, beginning September 1, 2026.

This newly created position within the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (R+I), will provide academic leadership for major interdisciplinary research and technology initiatives in strategic sectors. Working closely with faculties, research institutes, and partners across government and industry, the role will help advance ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s priorities in areas such as aerospace, defence, energy, advanced materials, and other emerging technology domains. It also supports the development of major research and industrial partnerships, the growth of strategic research centres and initiatives, and leadership on institutional priorities related to research, innovation, and technology development.

Professor Brochu’s cross-sector experience and strong record of research leadership make him well positioned to lead this portfolio. A recognized national and international expert in advanced manufacturing, materials engineering, additive manufacturing, and welding, he has partnered with more than forty companies worldwide to advance innovative technologies and has held fellowships with ASM International, the Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, and the Canadian Welding Bureau.

He brings demonstrated experience in building industry partnerships, leading collaborative initiatives, and has contributed to national research networks such as Hi-AM (Holistic Innovation in Additive Manufacturing) and the CFI-funded Can-AMN (Canadian Additive Manufacturing Network). His academic leadership is equally notable, having served as associate department chair and graduate program director.

Professor Benoit Boulet concludes mandate as Associate Vice-President, Innovation and Partnerships

On June 1, Professor Benoit Boulet concluded his mandate as Associate Vice President, Innovation and Partnerships. Over five years, Boulet contributed to the development of ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s innovation and partnership portfolio and helped strengthen the University’s engagement with industry, government, and ecosystem partners. He has been a valued collaborator in advancing strategic initiatives, including ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s engagement in the aerospace sector and the Collaborative Innovation Centre in Aerospace and Mobility (CCIAM) initiative. Through his service on the boards of Mila and IVADO, he also helped ensure that ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï remains actively engaged in Quebec’s rapidly evolving artificial intelligence ecosystem.Ìý
