 nce the first Beatty Lecture in 1954\, ninety inspiring lecturers have sto
 od at the Beatty podium. To launch this anthology of past lectures\, McGil
 l Professor Emeritus Charles Taylor (whose 2017 lecture is featured in the
  collection) joins Dr. Rowan Williams (former Archbishop of Canterbury\, w
 hose preface introduces the lecture) for a conversation on the importance 
 of public discourse and the role of the public intellectual. The one-hour 
 event also includes a visual tour of key moments in Beatty Lecture history
 \, a book giveaway contest and more.\n	The Beatty Lecture is one of ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï 
 University’s most anticipated annual events. Some of the series’ greatest 
 lectures\, delivered by Nobel Prize laureates\, world leaders\, and cultur
 al icons\, had been forgotten\, but carefully stowed away in the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Ar
 chives. To help us understand some of the most significant moments and dis
 coveries of our time\, With the World to Choose From spotlights fifteen ou
 tstanding Beatty Lectures\, spanning seven decades. Readers can discover -
  or rediscover - these important and inspiring lectures\, all in print for
  the first time. Some of today’s leading thinkers add contextual informati
 on to each chapter\, and an introduction illustrated with archival content
  sheds light on the history of the Beatty Lecture and the life of its nota
