Biography: 

Dr Rohan Kumar is appointed as an Assistant Professor in Multi-organ Transplant Surgery at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï, in 2026.

He read Medicine with merit at Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Medical School in London, United Kingdom. He subsequently specialised in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and was awarded FRCS (HPB) with the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2020.

His principal focus lies in the field of liver, pancreas, and islet transplantation. His doctoral thesis describes, for the first time, a physiological Ex vivo perfusion model was possible in the porcine pancreas, worldwide. He successfully demonstrated its application in investigating key parameters essential to the preservation of the pancreas and islets of Langerhans within the transplant setting.

Between 2020 and 2022, he pursued supra-specialised training in Edmonton, Canada, where he became accredited in Abdominal transplantation (liver, pancreas, islets, kidney), and in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery, awarded by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

Motivated by a strong interest in healthcare management, he graduated with distinction in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. His masters thesis that was entitled « The Creation and Sharing of Knowledge Amongst NHS Surgeons » focused on the transfer and capture of tacit learning as a tool for surgeons. He has developed expertise in qualitative research methodologies and relevant statistical approaches and maintains a keen interest in improving efficiency in healthcare delivery.

Through comprehensive training within both the British and North American healthcare systems, he has acquired a high degree of autonomy, recognised expertise, and a research network that supports future collaborative endeavours in liver, pancreas, islet, and kidney transplantation. He continues to maintain a keen interest in research and publishing papers. He is Associate Editor for Transplant International, a leading European journal with an international reputation.

He has worked in different countries and hospitals in his area of expertise. Recently, as a Médecin adjoint (Attending) in the Abdominal Transplant Unit at the Geneva University Hospitals where he further developed an autonomous clinical practice, performing liver, kidney, pancreas, and allogeneic islet transplantations.

Outside of work, he is a keen triathlete.
