 or in both the Departments of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the Fo
 othills Medical Centre of the University of Calgary\,and the former Medica
 l Director of Regional Trauma Services.\n	\n	Dr. Kirkpatrick graduated Magna
  Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa\, with fellowships in Surgery and
  Critical Care at the University of Toronto with a Master’s degree in Epid
 emiology at the University of British Columbia.\n	\n	He is a past President 
 of the Trauma Asociation of Canada and the Abdominal Compartment Society. 
 Dr. Kirkpatrick has more than 475 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters
 \, mainly concerning intra-abdominal hypertension\, emergency sonography\,
  hypothermia\, aerospace medicine and occult pneumothoraces. He is a past-
 President of the Trauma Association of Canada and the Abdominal Compartmen
 t Society\, as well as past executive member of the Canadian Emergency Ult
 rasound Society and the Canadian Asociation of General Surgeons Evidence B
 ased Reviews in Surgery Committees. He has consulted for the Canadian Spac
 e Agency and the National Space and Aeronautiocal Agencies. He retains a r
 eserve commision in the Canadian Forces and has served oversees on several
  occasions. He is a former Paratrooper and Flight Surgeon and currently ma
 intains a private pilots license. He has completed over 500 parabolas of p
 arabolic flight research. He is also the Global Principal Investigator for
  the Closed or Open after Laparotomy for Source Control or COOL Trial (htt
 ps://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03163095)\, and the Director of the Te
 leMentored Ultrasiound Supported Medical Interventions (TMUSMI) Reseach Gr
