ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Young Alumni of Montreal present "MYA Tour of Griffintown" - SOLD OUT!

Thursday, August 13, 2009 17:00
Cluny Art Bar, 257 Prince Street, Cluny Art Bar, 257 Prince Street, Montreal, CA

Join the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Young Alumni for a fascinating tour through the historic neighbourhood of Griffintown, located in the southwest borough of Montreal. Learn more about the roots of this former industrial epicentre, which was settled by Irish immigrants who worked on the construction of the Lachine Canal and in the surrounding industrial factories at the turn of the 20th century. Our guide is Gemma Peralta, BA’00, currently a graduate student in ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s School of Urban Planning. Gemma will highlight the unique urban design features of Griffintown, describing the historical buildings and the evolution of their uses, and discuss future urban planning considerations throughout the neighbourhood. Re-discover Griffintown as it is today, a lively neighbourhood in transition. At the end of our tour, we’ll stop at Griffintown’s own Bierbrier Brewing, founded by alumnus Charles Bierbrier, BA’98, and sample some of Montreal’s finest ale.

Highlights of the tour will include:
- Heritage buildings along Notre-Dame Street and new commercial enterprises
- The Griffintown Horse Palace
- Remnants of St. Ann’s Catholic Church
- Les Brasseurs de Montréal and Bierbrier Brewing
- The Dow and O’Keefe Brewery Buildings
- The Lowney Lofts and Windsor Terraces
- The Darling Foundry and Cluny Art Bar

The tour starts at Cluny Art Bar, 257 Prince Street, at the corner of William and will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared. We look forward to seeing you.

Cost: $11.29 CDN
