About the Program

The D2R Mentorship Program aims to provide one-on-one guidance to graduate students working on D2R-aligned research projects to assist their development, retention and progression as flourishing academic researchers. This program will support graduate students to expand their skillset and confidence for pursuing academic research.

Mentorship in this program will focus on three areas core areas:

  1. Barriers faced in academia,
  2. Equitable access to opportunities
  3. Maintaining well-being in grad school

Overall Structure

The 2026 Mentorship Program will feature small mentee groups consisting of 5 Master’s students and 5 PhD students.

  • Master’s students – paired with PhD student mentor
  • PhD students – paired with Postdoc or ECR PI mentor
  • The program will consist of online info sessions for both mentors and mentees followed by 3 in-person meetings during Fall 2026
  • Mentees will be asked to prepareÌýin advance of each session

Key Dates

  • Application Deadline: September 14, 2026 at 5pm Eastern Time
  • Participants notified: Late September 2026
  • Info sessions (online): week of October 12th
  • Master’s sessions (in person): Wednesdays Oct. 21, Nov. 4, Nov. 18 (3:30-5:00pm)
  • PhD sessions (in person): Wednesdays Oct. 28, Nov. 11, Nov. 25 (3:30-5:00pm)

Eligibility Considerations

  • Applicants must be graduate students working on a D2R-funded or aligned research project
  • Applicants must be available to attend sessions in person on scheduled dates
  • Selection criteria include:
    • Alignment of goals with mentoring program objectives
    • Clearly communicated motivation
    • Previous involvement in D2R training events (an asset)
