Call for Chapters – Caught Within Omissions: The Social Impacts of COVID-19

Dr. Shaheen Shariff, DISE, Dr. Christopher Dietzel, and Safia Amiry are working on an edited collection about the social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this collection is to identify and analyze ongoing and emerging pandemic-related challenges and develop realistic guidelines and suggestions for a post-pandemic world.

Claudia Mitchell honoured by the World Cultural Council

This past November, Distinguished James ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies, Claudia Mitchell, was awarded the 2022 José Vasconcelos World Award of Education. Dr. Mitchell was present for the 37th World Cultural Council (WCC) Award to receive this honour at Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal, and to give her acceptance speech.

Philip Cutler, BEd’13, Created Company that Provides Access to Quality Help for Middle School and High School Students

ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s Faculty of Education, Philip Cutler, BEd’13, created the company Paper, which he co-founded with Roberto Cipriani, BSc’08. It quickly became one of the largest online tutoring services in the U.S., hired by public school districts in over 30 states, as well as four provinces in Canada, to assist their students (mostly middle school and high school).

ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Flag Lowered to Honour Hannah Wallace

Friday, June 3, 2022 — ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï lowered its flag today to honour the memory of Hannah Wallace. Hannah, a U3 student in the Bachelor of Education Secondary English program, passed away suddenly on May 4, 2022. She was known to have been a talented teacher, writer, and gentle soul.

Jade LaFontaine, Master's student in Second Language Education and lecturer at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï, is the winner of the prestigious Indigenous Graduate Student Award of the 2022 Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics (CAAL/ACLA) conference. This important award recognizes excellence in graduate student research submitted to the 2022 CAAL/ACLA conference.

Applied Theatre Students Perform "Explain Quebec; Quebec Explain!"

On Friday May 13, 2022, Applied Theatre students from The Faculty of Education and Nursing put on a show entitled "Explain Quebec; Quebec Explain!" for the public, outside of the Redpath Museum, led by their Professor, Dr. Mindy R. Carter.

Exploring topics such as discrimination and systemic racism, the gathered audience had the opportunity to dialogue about these issues and to then consider, through theatre, possibly pathways for change.
