Student Association Support:

The CGCS supports ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï student groups in hosting activities that promote dialogue, learning, and engagement on topics related to China, the Chinese-speaking world, or global Chinese communities. Eligible events may include talks, workshops, roundtables, and cultural activities.

Student associations may request up to $300 per event. To apply, groups must submit a one-page event summary and budget plan to cgcs [at] mcgill.ca. Applications are reviewed twice annually, with deadlines on January 15 for Winter term events and September 15 for Fall term events.

Best Student Paper Awards:

The CGCS?annually grants Best Student Research Paper Awards¡ªone at the graduate level and one at the undergraduate level¡ªto recognize outstanding scholarship on China, the Chinese-speaking world, or global Chinese communities. Each award carries a $200 prize and celebrates exceptional original research that deepens understanding of China, the Chinese-speaking world, or global Chinese communities. Nominations must be submitted by a faculty member by May 1, accompanied by the nominated paper and a brief rationale. Presented once per year, these awards highlight academic excellence and encourage emerging scholars to contribute meaningfully to the field.

Conference Travel and Registration Awards:

The CGCS?offers a Conference Travel and Registration Award of up to $500,?available on an ongoing basis, to support ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï students who are presenting research papers on topics related to China, the Chinese-speaking world, or global Chinese communities. This award is intended to encourage high-quality scholarly engagement and expand students¡¯ participation in Canadian and international academic conversations. Funds may be used to help cover conference registration fees, travel, and accommodation. Applicants must provide proof of paper acceptance, a budget, and a brief statement explaining the relevance of their research to the Centre¡¯s mission. Through this award, CGCS aims to foster emerging scholarship and strengthen academic networks in Chinese and China-related studies.
