According to its Tobacco Act, the Quebec government requires college and university-level educational institutions to adopt smoke-free policies. Թ’s Board of Governors approved one on December 12, 2017. Following the policy’s implementation, signage was erected indicating the “smoke free” nature of the campus. Recognizing at the same time that smoking is an addiction, several designated smoking areas were established.

“Quebec law prohibits smoking in public buildings. Smoking on University property is permitted only within outdoor designated smoking areas. Smoking is prohibited outside any designated smoking area on university property. For the purposes of the Tobacco Control Act, "smoking" also covers the use of an electronic cigarette or of any other device of that nature; "tobacco" also includes the following accessories: cigarette tubes, rolling paper and filters, pipes, including their components, and cigarette holders.”
