The ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï-STRI Neotropical Environment Option
Collaborating institutions representing Canada, Panama and the United States have united efforts to offer an avant-garde graduate-level program.
This Master's and PhD option is primarily research based, and students will work under the supervision of researchers from ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï and/or the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). Research areas are multiple but all will be related to environmental problems facing Latin America today.

Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute
The (STRI), with headquarters in the Republic of Panama, is a unit of the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC, USA) and one of the world's leading centres for basic research on the ecology, behaviour and evolution of tropical organisms.
Program Description
The ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï-STRI Neotropical Environment Option (NEO) is a research-based option for Masters or PhD students in the departments of Anthropology, Biology, Bioresource Engineering, Geography, Natural Resource Sciences, Plant Science, and Political Science at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï.
NEO is aimed at students who wish to focus their graduate research on environmental issues relevant to the Neotropics and Latin American countries. NEO favors interdisciplinary approaches to research and learning through the participation of researchers from ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï and from STRI. Students will complete their research in Latin America and NEO's core and complementary courses will be taught in Panama. NEO's educational approach seeks to facilitate a broader understanding of tropical environmental issues and the development of skills relevant to working in the tropics.
Whether applying to a Master or a PhD, students are expected to meet all the degree requirements of the department in which they are registered. In addition, NEO students will have to meet the specific requirements of the option.
