Expert: Prediction markets coming to Canada
Wealthsimple is preparing to launch a new app this summer that will give Canadian retail investors limited access to prediction markets, where users can trade on the outcome of real‑world events – from interest rates to climate trends – through the U.S. platform Kalshi.
Jeff Derevensky, Professor Emeritus in ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï’s Department of Educational Psychology, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours, is available to speak about how prediction markets can blur the line between investing and betting, the potential for users to develop gambling-like behaviours, and the broader regulatory and public health considerations as prediction markets expand.
