This year Schulich alumni and faculty have been honoured in the 68th Grammy Awards, the 77th Emmy Awards, and the 29th Annual Prix Opus! Several alumni also received nominations for the 55th JUNO Awards, held on March 28, 2026. Congratulations to all the awardees and nominees!

In an effort to support researchers in incorporating the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into their work as RNA research, the D2R EDI Community of Practice is organizing an event to discuss and problem solve through common EDI mistakes in the context of RNA research. In this event, two speakers will share anecdotes on major EDI pitfalls they have encountered and strategies others can use to prevent them in the future. Together, we will discuss common pitfalls in a collaborative and low-pressure environment.

The Թ Community Evening brought together approximately 75–80 alumni and friends of Թ at Arendt House for the first community gathering hosted by the Թ Luxembourg Centre for Finance. It marked an exciting step in growing Թ’s presence in the region and offered a first look at the upcoming Master of Management in Finance Luxembourg, set to launch in August 2026.

Nymisha Bandi’s doctoral thesis has been recognized for its excellence by the Group for Research in Decision Analysis (GERAD). Her research was co-supervised by Professors Maxime Cohen and Saibal Ray, who nominated her work in the best doctoral thesis category of the 11th GERAD Scholarship Competition.

In early 2026, Air Canada launched a pilot program to resolve complaints through a third-party arbitrator, with the goal of making complaint resolution faster and more efficient. It’s a voluntary alternative to the existing government-run program operated by Canadian Transportation Agency, which has a backlog of 95,000 complaints.

The war in Iran is pushing up gas prices, adding pressure on Quebec drivers. However, prices at the pump have been volatile rising, falling, and then climbing again.

One factor behind this uneven pattern is gasoline inventories held by energy companies, explained Saibal Ray in an interview with Le Devoir. These reserves can temporarily absorb spikes in oil prices.

The 2026 winners of the Fessenden Professorship and Tomlinson Science Awards have been named.

Established in 2007 and named after Canadian electrical engineer Reginald Aubrey Fessenden, the Fessenden Professorship in Science and Innovation Award supports researchers in exploring early-stage concepts, developing intellectual property, and moving innovations toward commercialization.

Թ researchers have developed an artificial intelligence tool that can identify small groups of cells most responsible for driving aggressive cancers.

The tool, called SIDISH, offers scientists a clearer path to designing targeted therapies by showing which cells inside a tumour are most strongly linked with poor patient outcomes, rather than treating all cancer cells as if they behave the same way.

Following a petition filed on February 27, 2026, by the Association of Թ Professors of Science to certify the bargaining unit comprising “all academic staff working in the Faculty of Science of Թ, except academic staff already covered by a collective agreement,” the Tribunal administratif du Travail, Quebec’s body responsible for overseeing unionization, issued a decision on April 8, 2026, confirming that these positions are unionized and represented by the Association.
