Our Team

The ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï International TB Centre (MITBC) is made up of ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï researchers with an interest in TB, as well as Canadian and international researchers with an active collaboration with a MITBC member.

MITBC members and affiliate members have wide ranging expertise in different disciplines and methodologies. Their research projects range from basic biomedical research to population and policy level studies. Their research may be considered to span a spectrum of disciplines of health research.

Dick MenziesDick Menzies - DirectorÌý

Dr. Dick Menzies received his medical training at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï and specialty training in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA, with sub-specialty training in Respiratory Medicine and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology & Biostatistics at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï. He is now Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï WHO Collaborating Centre in TB Research and the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï International TB Center.

Marcel BehrMarcel BehrÌý

Dr. Marcel Behr is a clinician-scientist. He trained at the University of Toronto, Queen's, ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï and Stanford. He was the founding Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï International TB Centre and led it from 2012 to 2018. He is Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Infectious Diseases Division and the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity (MI4).

Jonathon CampbellJonathon CampbellÌý

Dr. Jonathon Campbell received his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2018 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï. His research centers on generating evidence to inform the design and implementation of novel tuberculosis prevention and care strategies that maximize public health impact, while minimizing health system and patient costs.

Maziar DivangahiMaziar Divangahi

Dr. Maziar Divangahi is a Professor of Medicine at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï. Dr. Divangahi is the Associate Director of the Meakins-Christie Laboratories.ÌýHe is an internationally recognized pulmonary immunologist and the overarching focus of his research program is to investigate the regulatory mechanisms involved in host resistance and disease tolerance against major pulmonary bacterial pathogens.

Olivia OxladeOlivia Oxlade - Associate Director

Olivia Oxlade trained as an epidemiologist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (MSc in Control of Infectious Disease) and ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï (PhD in Epidemiology). After completing her PhD, Dr. Oxlade conducted research and worked at the RI-MUHC on projects related to tuberculosis, social determinants of health, health system strengthening and decision analysis.Ìý

Erwin SchurrErwin Schurr

Dr. Erwin Schurr is a Distinguished James ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Professor of Human Genetics and Medicine at ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï. He is the past leader of the Program of Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health (IDIGH) at the Research Institute of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Health Centre.
