Dr. Mayara Bastos is a clinician-scientist whose research focuses on optimizing tuberculosis (TB) prevention and care through quantitative modelling, real-world data, and clinical research. Her work bridges epidemiology, implementation science, and clinical decision support, with a particular emphasis on tuberculosis preventive therapy (TPT) and drug–drug interactions in people with complex medical conditions.

Developed during her postdoctoral research, TST in 4D is an advanced web-based decision-support tool that estimates individualized risks and benefits of TPT across multiple populations, age groups, and infection test results. Using state-transition microsimulation modelling, Dr. Bastos’s work examines how regimen choice, age, and comorbidities influence TB outcomes and quality-adjusted life years, providing an evidence base for precision TB prevention.

Through her collaborations with the University of Manitoba, ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï, and partners across Canada and Brazil, Dr. Bastos aims to generate evidence that informs clinical decision-making, enhances TB prevention strategies, and supports equitable implementation of shorter, safer TPT regimens.

Current research projects:

Her current research program includes multi-site clinical and pharmacokinetic studies investigating rifamycin-based regimens and drug–drug interactions in individuals with HIV and other chronic conditions. In parallel, she leads a living systematic review on interactions between TB preventive therapy and antiretroviral or other commonly used medications.
