Marcel Behr -Member

Dr. Marcel Behr is a clinician-scientist. He was the founding Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï International TB Centre and led it from 2012 to 2018. He is Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Infectious Diseases Division and the ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity (MI4).

Dr. Behr trained at the University of Toronto, Queen’s, ºÚÁÏÍø±¬³Ô¹Ï and Stanford. His work has clarified the natural history of TB, determined the basis of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) attenuation, identified differences between related mycobacterial species, and explained the molecular basis for the use of mycobacteria as immune adjuvants.

Current Research Projects:

  • Tuberculosis preventive treatments (TPT) model with Dr. Andréanne Lupien and Dr. Richard Menzies.
  • Immunization against zoonotic TB strains with Dr. Maziar Divangahi.
  • Single-cell sequence analysis of zoonotic TB strains with Dr. Erwin Schurr.
  • Working with Dr. Luke Harrison on Mycobacterium tuberculosis evolution.
